1- Can you tell us about your background and how you got started in acting and singing?

I’ve been singing forever! I started doing Broadway classes when I was 4 after my mom realized that I was pretending to faint in gymnastics and asking for a million water breaks… I was always a bit dramatic and I needed an outlet. I started musical theatre when I was 5, professional acting when I was 7, and I haven’t stopped since. Putting out music and actively pursuing being an artist is new: I started releasing music last year. I honestly believed I had to choose one career over the other, but I never stopped singing or writing music. Now I get to do both of my passions, and they both feed into each other.

2- How do you handle criticism of your work and maintain a positive attitude in a competitive industry?

Starting in the entertainment industry at a young age definitely gave me a thick skin. I would put my whole heart and soul into an audition and be so crushed when I didn’t get the role… but I realized,” There’s only one me in this world, they’ll either like me! Or they won’t! All I can do is be authentic, give 100%, and then move on.” I love what I do so it makes it easy to ignore criticism and hate and try to only listen to the people that matter. Music on the other hand is very subjective: some people love a song and some people hate it. I can’t make everyone happy, but I can write what makes me happy or sad or whatever I’m feeling, put it out, and hope that it makes at least one person feel seen.

3- How do you stay motivated and inspired in your work?

I definitely have ups and downs. I won’t lie and say everything is always great! It gets hard to stay excited and motivated, but I seriously love what I do! I’m so lucky to be able to do it and be at the place I’m at. Whenever I start to get down on myself or feel stagnant, I let myself feel that but then I keep moving forward. I also think it helps that I have an amazing support system! My family is amazing, my mom is seriously the best, I have people to lean on that also push me to not give up on myself.

4- You’ve had a lot of diverse roles throughout your career. Which character has been your favorite to play and why?

Aw man that’s like asking me to pick my favorite child!! I’ve loved getting to play all of my roles. Kate Fuller in From Dusk Till Dawn the series was the first role I really got to grow up with. I started playing her when I was 16 and ended the series when I was 20 so I really evolved with her. Working with Robert Rodriguez was incredible! He actually gave me my first guitar. Meredith Harlow in Reprisal was just the most fun to play! I got to tap into my seductress side for the first time, but also explore her complexities beyond being this strong sexy burlesque dancer. Oh, I also got to learn how to burlesque dance which was amazing!

5- You’ve worked on TV shows, movies, and music. Do you prefer one format over the other, and if so, why?

I like doing tv because you really get to grow and learn right alongside your character. The film is super satisfying because you have all the information so you can really develop a full story for your character. Music is personal, I’m not playing a role and I’m trying to be authentic to myself and what I go through and I’m putting my voice into the world. I love them all for different reasons!

6- You’ve been acting since a young age. How has your approach to acting changed over the years, and what have you learned about the craft?

When I was younger there was no technique, just go out there have fun, and be myself. It was second nature. Now I do a lot more character study. I like to try and build memories for the characters so that they start to become real people. I’ve learned from many people but something that stuck with me the most was “We are all made up of memories, when we look at a scar we know the story behind it. Our stories are the reason we behave certain ways or react to different things.”

7- Please tell us about your experience working with Amy Adams!

Working in this industry means getting to meet so many people you admire. Some of those people you sorta end up wishing you never met. I was so nervous to meet Amy… but she is not only one of the most talented actors I’ve worked with, she is kind and incredibly intelligent and she really showed me what it is to be a strong woman on set. I can say without a doubt she’s amazing!

8- What is the message behind your new song Lucky?

The message is this: YOU ARE LUCKY!! You can do anything you put your mind to. Honestly, it was a reminder to myself that I’m awesome and good things are happening! I decided to use casino terms because I thought it fit the theme of doing the impossible: beating the house.

9- Is there something that you used to do that you loved, but you’ve now stopped doing?

Honestly no. I’m being creative and pushing myself into new creative outlets. Every now and then I’ll get an itch to go dance and I just do it cause why not? I like to do aerial arts and sometimes I’ll get caught up doing other things, but I always try to get to class to fill that need to be in the air.

10- What was the last crazy adventure you went on?

I can’t say…

11- What is next for Madison Davenport?

World domination? Haha, I think what’s next is just trying a whole bunch of everything and continuing to grow as a person and an artist. I hope that at the end of the day, I can look back and say “Wow I really did the damn thing”.
